Gita & Stress Management
The Gita, an Indian ancient spiritual text, offers profound insights into managing stress through its teachings on self-awareness, duty, and mental health. At its core, the Gita emphasizes the importance of understanding one’s role in life and fulfilling duties with a combination of Karma Yoga, Gyan Yoga, Dhyan Yog and Bhakti Yog and ultimately achieve the state of sthitpradnya; state of rational and controlled emotions, behavior and thoughts through abhyas and vairagya.
The Gita encourages a balanced approach to life’s challenges, reducing the anxiety and tension that often accompany modern living.
Dr. Girish Lad has devised this program on Gita and Stress Management with his scientific study from the mental health perspective. He has delivered sessions on Gita & Stress Management at International level to various communities, corporates and management students.
About the Program
In the Mahabharata, around 5000 years ago, Arjuna faced a moral crisis on the battlefield— confused, overwhelmed, and unsure whether to fight against his own relatives and friends. In that defining moment, Lord Shri Krishna guided Arjuna with profound insight, narrating the Bhagavad Gita. In this sense, Krishna becomes the world’s first counselor, and the Gita can be seen as an early counseling guide for human dilemmas, decision-making, and emotional resilience.
Dr. Girish Lad has studied multiple versions and interpretations of the Bhagavad Gita and mapped its teachings to modern mental health concepts. Through this work, he developed the “Gita & Stress Management” program to show how the Gita’s principles can be applied in real-life situations to reduce stress, strengthen coping, and address stress-related patterns and illnesses.
Talks & Workshops
Conducted by Girish Lad, founder of the Texas School of Mental Health, this session has been presented internationally, including at the Embassy of India, The Hague.
The content bridges philosophy and day-to-day coping—helping audiences reframe stress, improve self-control, and build steadier habits through reflective practice.
How the Gita connects to modern mental health
The program interprets the teachings of the Gita in the context of today’s stress and stress-related illnesses—exploring how its principles can offer durable answers and practical coping frameworks.
